Wearing and Storing Your Jewlery
The pieces I create are built to last, however these are some steps you can take to make sure they stay looking their best!
- Sterling LOVES to be worn! Infact it tends to tarnish less the more you wear it, however, there are certain times where removing all of your jewlery regardless of the material is the best bet for keeping it beautiful. You should take off your jewelry before engaging in activities like swimming, certain household chores, working out, or any activity that could result in the piece getting lost or damaged. In cases of necklaces with delicate chains or rings with prongs it is recommended to remove before sleeping to avoid being damaged or deformed.
- Keep jewelry away from perfumes, lotions, and household chemicals that can harm the finish or stones. Apply body and hair products before putting on your jewelry to keep it safe. Regularly inspect your piece for loose stones, signs of damage, or wear. Look for any change in shape of bands, chain links, earring posts and functionality of things like clasps. Catching things early and getting them fixed will prevent things like loss or more serious breaking that may result in the piece not being repairable. I offer lifetime repairs and maintenance on all my pieces and complimentary prong tightening so don't hesitate to reach out!
Storage
- Every piece comes with a storage pouch or box for safe keeping when not being worn. If you plan to store your piece for long periods of time consider putting it in an air tight container or baggie to prevent tarnish build up. Avoid storing pieces in high humidity areas like the bathroom as moisture will tarnish silver and brass quickly when not being worn.
Cleaning your jewlery
To keep your jewelry clean and shiny follow the instructions below for the material its made from!
Every piece is sent with a sample of my favorite Sunshine brand polishing cloth to keep it shiny. Polishing cloth should be replaced once it turns all black, full size Sunshine cloths can be purchased Here to keep all your jewelry looking good as new!
Sterling Silver
Sterling is very easy to care for and can be cleaned using a mild dish soap, warm water, and a soft toothbrush. Remember to rinse and dry your pieces thoroughly when done! If your piece has developed some tarnish which is totally normal from exposure to skin oils, water, and even just the air, it is super easy to remove! Sunshine cloths are my favorite but any silver safe polish and a soft cloth can also be used to clean your pieces, just be sure to avoid rubbing the cleaner on stones.
14K Gold Filled
When properly cared for gold filled jewelry should not tarnish, however its a good idea to keep it clean and polish it occasionally to make sure the piece stays looking good and that build up of products and life don't compromise the finish! To clean, use mild dish soap and warm water with a soft toothbrush, make sure to rinse and dry your piece thoroughly when done! Take care not to use harsh or abrasive cloths or cleaners as it could wear away the gold over time with repeated use.
14K Solid Gold
Solid gold jewelry is easy to care for and is very resistant to tarnishing. The best way to clean gold is with a mild dish soap, warm water and a soft toothbrush. Make sure to rinse and dry your piece thoroughly when done! It is not recommended to use abrasive cloths to wipe or polish as it can cause micro scratches in the surface over time.
Brass
Brass is a lovely warm metal that is easy to care for but does tarnish more than the rest. Some people love the dark color of patinaed brass but if you want that bright shiny look giving it a quick polish will return that luster. The best way to clean is with a mild dish soap, warm water and a soft toothbrush. Make sure to rinse and dry your piece thoroughly when done! You can also use a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda with a soft toothbrush or rag to remove tarnish, just rinse well and dry when done!

Caring for Matte Finished Jewlery
Matte Finished jewelry can be cared for similarly to its shiny counterparts when it comes to cleaning. The main difference comes to polishing and removing tarnish!
Follow the cleaning instructions for the metal your piece is made from. When it comes to polishing however it is best to use polishing cloths that do not have compound in them as they will do their job and shine off all the matte finish. I provide a soft polishing cloth with every piece that is safe to use on the Matte finish to remove light tarnish, if your piece is more heavily tarnished you may use the piece of fine steel wool provided to clean the surface of the metal to lightly polish off the tarnish.
Things happen, and if you polish the matte finish off completely or it just needs a refresh don't worry click here to learn about our Lifetime Maintenance and have it looking brand new in no time!
