Rainbow Moonstone Beaded Ring
Rainbow Moonstone Beaded Ring
This ring features a stunning, faceted, rainbow moonstone, in a hand fabricated sterling silver setting, with a dainty beaded band.
Did you know rainbow moonstone is not moonstone at all, but actually white labradorite? Both are part of the feldspar family but they contain different minerals making them distinctly different stones despite the trade name. True moonstone contains orthoclase and albite which mix to create its signature moving sheen called adularescence. Rainbow moonstone only contains albite which refracts light leading to the flashes of rainbow colors called labradorescence. Because of this Rainbow moonstone and Labradorite are known as "sister stones".
Ancient indigenous people believed Rainbow moonstone was the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis trapped in the rock. In Norse mythology it was associated with a burning rainbow bridge, known as the Bifrost Bridge, believed to be the gateway between earth and the realm of the gods. In all civilizations that valued it for its metaphysical properties it was known to be a powerful stone for enhancing spiritual consciousness, improving intuition, and providing spiritual protection.
The design of this piece pays homage to all of its lores. The beaded band represents the stars in the sky aligning and connecting to create a bridge between this world and the spiritual realm. And brilliantly faceted stone, truly looks like a streak of the northern lights are dancing inside.
